Enjoy a three-day island extravaganza off the Northumberland coast on my home ground. We'll be head to head with Puffins, toe to toe with Terns, eye to eye with Shags and many, many other close encounters, as we get up close and personal with the thousands of seabirds at one of Britain's foremost wildlife spectacles.

The Farne Islands are the most easterly outcrop of the Great Whin Sill; a strip of hard, dark, volcanic rock that stretches throughout Northumberland.  Inner Farne with St Cuthbert's Chapel has 1000's of nesting seabirds, including Puffin, Shag, Eider and four different Terns.  Staple Island is one of the outer group of islands and is an exposed, rugged, rocky outcrop, its gullies, cliffs and sea stacks, known as the 'Pinnacles', are a perfect habitat for breeding Guillemot, Razorbill and Kittiwakes.

We'll visit both islands and most people end up in an overwhelming frenzy of shooting; as the photographic opportunities abound. You will enjoy it so much you'll want to do it all again - and you can - we have two full day trips to the Farne Islands.  From the boat we may even get face to face with some of the large numbers of Grey Seals that live on the outer islands and come close, full of curiosity.

I've been visiting the islands since boyhood (over 40yrs since my first trip!) and can find the best places to maximise your visit and chances of the shots you want to achieve.

The two Farnes days are split as we head further south and take a short cruise around Coquet Island; an RSPB reserve a mile off the coast, near Amble (though landing is not allowed).  It's home to another huge colony of seabirds, including 90% of the UK population of one of the rarest, the Roseate Tern.  From the boat we'll have opportunities to shoot the birds from a sea-level perspective as they wheel and dive.  This day will also be spent exploring other parts of the renowned Northumberland coast for landscapes, abstracts, rock patterns, flowers and butterflies as we visit secluded bays and beaches. Daylight lasts long at this time of year and our days will be full.

We are based in very comfortable hotel accommodation on the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Winter Wildlife - February 8th - 14th 2014

"The winter months are undoubtedly the best time of the year for wildlife photography in the Scottish Highlands. From our spectacular lodge in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, we like to think that we offer the very best in photographic opportunities from red squirrels on our doorstep to red deer set in a magnificent Highland wilderness - all against the backdrop of snow-capped hills, primeval forests and wild moorland.

Close to our base, we maintain several feeding stations for red squirrels where these charismatic icons of the pine forest can be photographed running, jumping and simply posing against a range of backdrops. Also nearby we have carefully engineered settings and hides for crested tits and other birds of the northern forests.

Groups in the past have been lucky enough to photograph capercaillie and even Scottish wildcat – you just never know!"

The Ultimate Puffin Bootcamp - Fair Isle, Shetlands - June 27th - July 3rd 2014

"This dedicated tour focuses almost exclusively on puffins. You will shoot puffin portraits, puffins in flight, puffin behaviour and puffin interaction. It’s fair to say that you should only sign up for this tour if you like puffins! The species list is not as extensive as many of our tours but the photographic possibilities are endless and if this is a species you’ve always wanted to photograph seriously, this is the tour for you."

OTHER ROB JORDAN PHOTOURS UNDER DEVELOPMENT

NEW - Northern Icons

Dates - details to be arranged

The Angel of the North, Hadrian's Wall, the Tyne Bridges, Bamburgh & Dunstanburgh Castles - visually stimulating images that define a region. This tour concentrates on creating imagery of these iconic landmarks and others - working sometimes at the extremes of day and light as well as the intimacy of the sometimes unseen 'inner' landscape detail.

NEW - Wet & Wild Waterfall Weekends

Dates - details to be arranged

Short-breaks exploring a variety of large, small and sometimes hidden waterfalls found throughout the North-East of England. Photography will concentrate on defining the essence of each location, creating imagery that will be both a literal and impressionistic interpretation of place.

NEW - Coast & Castles

Dates - details to be arranged

Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England and one of the most inspiring natural coastlines to be found anywhere.  The tours concentrate on the wild, windswept landscapes created by both nature and the hand of man, particularly at the fringes of day and light.

NEW - 'Hide & Seek'

Dates - details to be arranged

Where we'll use 'hides' for some of our photography and 'seek' other images from the field at various sites and locations throughout the region.
